The Russell 2000 index, which measures U.S. small-cap equities, was down 0.3%, according to FactSet data. The S&P 500, a gauge of large-cap stocks in the U.S., was clinging to gains in late afternoon trading, up less than 0.1%, FactSet data show, at last check.
