Hurricane Gabrielle, Invest 93L and 94L spaghetti models. Are Naples, Marco Island in path?

view original post

As Hurricane Gabrielle moves into the North Atlantic as a Category 4 storm on Sept. 23, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring two new systems with the potential for additional development.

A hurricane watch is in effect for the islands of the Azores, where hurricane conditions are possible by Thursday night, along with heavy rainfall into Friday morning.

Swells generated by Gabrielle will continue to affect Bermuda and the U.S. East Coast and are expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, the hurricane center said.

Meanwhile, Invest 93L in the western tropical Atlantic and Invest 94L, east of the Leeward Islands, have a high and medium chance, respectively, to become tropical depressions over the next seven days, per the NHC.

It’s too soon to know if these systems will have any impact on the Naples area.

Temperatures in the low 90s with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are likely for the next several days, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Gabrielle is forecast to approach the Azores late on Thursday as a hurricane. In response, a Hurricane Watch is now in effect for all of the islands of the Azores and interests there should closely monitor Gabrielle’s progress.

Swells generated by Gabrielle will continue to affect Bermuda, the east coast of the United States from North Carolina northward, as well as Atlantic Canada, during the next couple of days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

East of the Leeward Islands (AL94): A tropical wave is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, and gusty winds across much of the Windward and Leeward Islands.

The system is then expected to slow down and turn northwestward when it reaches the southwestern Atlantic near the Bahamas late this week, and a tropical depression could form when the disturbance is in that region.

Interests in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas should monitor the progress of this system.
