When I began writing columns, the newspaper editor warned me that after a couple of months, I would probably run out of ideas.
Now, 18 years later and having just passed 900 columns, I find that I still have a lot to say. The secret I have found to avoid what authors call “writer’s block” is to carry a notepad. Every day things come to my attention, either through client visits or reading the news or something else, that spur an idea for a column. By immediately putting those thoughts in my notepad, I have plenty of ideas waiting to be explored.
