Mangaluru, Jul 1: The department of BCom at the Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, organised a guest lecture on June 24 titled ‘investor education Initiative by HSBC Mutual Fund’ aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of investment practices and financial literacy.
The session, held in Classroom 304, was conducted by Deeksha Rao, assistant professor at A J Institute of Management Studies, Mangaluru. The event focused on spreading awareness about mutual funds, SEBI’s investor certification programme, and the importance of early financial planning.
The session was organised under the guidance of Dr Venkatesh S Amin, dean of IMC, and was attended by final-year honors and ACCA students, along with faculty members including Prof Sharmila S Shetty (HOD), Prof Prathijna K (Guest talk coordinator), Prof Hansel Rego, Prof Bhat Apoorva, Prof Seetha Laxmi, Prof Deepthi, and others.
Key highlights of the session included:
• SEBI investor certificate programme: Rao emphasised its relevance for students seeking to understand the financial market.
• Understanding Mutual Funds: The session provided insights into the structure, types, and functioning of mutual funds.
• ELSS and tax benefits: The discussion covered the advantages of Equity Linked Savings Scheme and its role in tax planning.
• Future investment planning: Students were introduced to the significance of mutual fund investments for risk diversification and long-term financial security.
The interactive lecture engaged students with practical examples and real-life brand case studies, making complex financial concepts relatable and easy to understand.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the faculty and organizers for their efforts. The event proved to be a valuable learning experience for students, fostering greater awareness of responsible investing and the role of mutual funds in personal financial growth.
