After “aggressive” hikes, Brazil cenbank must stay vigilant, says head

Brazil’s central bank has been “quite aggressive” in raising interest rates, with much of that policy shift still to impact the economy, its head said on Friday, cautioning that policymakers could however not afford to “let their guard down.” Roberto Campos Neto, speaking at event hosted by investment firm 1618 Investimentos, also noted that, while Brazil’s latest inflation figure came in above expectations, markets were not anticipating more rate hikes. Brazilian consumer prices fell 0.73% in the month to mid-August.
