Former doubles world No. 1 Sania Mirza has suffered a torn tendon and she is out of the US Open. Mirza, a six-time Grand Slam champion in doubles, was scheduled to play her last Grand Slam at the upcoming US Open. Unfortunately, Mirza sustained an injury at the worst possible time and she is forced to miss out on the final Grand Slam of the year.
But there is still a chance we will see Mirza at another Grand Slam as she has hinted that she will now likely make some changes to her retirement plans. At the start of the 2022 season, Mirza announced she was planning to retire at the end of the season.
“Hi guys, a quick update. I just have some not-so-great-news. I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada two weeks ago and obviously didn’t realize how bad it was until I got my scans yesterday and unfortunately I have torn a little bit of my tendon.
I will be out for (a few) weeks and have pulled out of the US Open. This isn’t ideal and is a terrible timing and it will change some of my retirement plans, but I will keep you posted. Love, Sania,” Mirza wrote on Instagram Story.

Mirza likely won’t play at the Chennai Open either
The inaugural Chennai Open edition is scheduled to kick off on September 12.
Mirza, one of the best-ever Indian tennis players, likely won’t be playing in Chennai. “But now that she is injured, it does not look like she is going to play at US Open and whether she would be fit enough to play with us, we will have to wait and see.
Even if she does not play, TNTA would like to invite and felicitate her for the incredible career that she has had,” Viyaj Amritraj said. It remains to be seen when will Mirza be able to return to action and for long she intends to keep playing.
