Stock Market Falls as Dow, S&P 500 Start June With Losses

U.S. stock indexes retreated, suggesting stocks may start June with losses after capping a volatile trading month.

The S&P 500 fell 0.7% Wednesday, with all three major U.S. indexes handing back morning gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off about 0.5%, while the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.7%. Ten of the S&P 500’s 11 sectors were recently in the red, with energy the exception.
